What we love about this video on Skateboarding
by Remy, Year 5 at Soho Parish School, is how he has taken his passion in skateboarding and found an innovative way to talk about it by giving a presentation at his school using technology. Could this be the way to get boys to engage more at schools? Perhaps also school is not boring when you are involved in subjects that you are interested in?
Home-schooling has become a viable option for many parents seeking to expand and improve their child‘s educational experience. The public and private school systems are limited, for practical reasons, as to how far they can go to meet a particular child’s educational needs. With home-schooling on the other hand, the entire process is geared towards your child in a one-on-one manner. You can create a particular curriculum suited to your child, and teach in a way works best for him or her. It is for these reasons, not to mention the economic benefits when you consider the costs associated with private schools, that many parents choose to home-school their children.
In recent decades, homeschooling, or the traditional practice of educating children within the home as against sending them to a public or private learning institution, is slowly making its way back to the educational mainstream.
This alternative means of elementary and high school education dates back to 1906 in the United States when the Calvert Day School in Baltimore, Maryland offered the “curriculum in a box” partnered with a National Geographicadvertisement. Shortly after its fifth year, almost 300 children employed Calvert’s instructional materials for homeschooling. Almost a century later, this method, alongside many other methods and materials developed, spread like wild fire not only within the U.S. but also to 90 other countries all over the globe.
You want to go back to school and continue your education. Perhaps you’d like to earn your first degree or you’d like to earn a new degree in a different field. You’ve been dreaming of that degree but haven’t dared believe your dream can come true because you think you are too old.
You aren’t. It really is that simple. I don’t care what your age is, as an experiencedcollege-level educator I can assure you that you are not too old, because there are many nontraditional students on college campuses today (and likely some of those are older than you are), your life experience gives you many advantages over more traditional students, and with the growing nontraditional population many colleges have programs and services especially tailored for the nontraditional student.
